As part of Quantum’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments, we are supporting both World Food Day (16th October) and International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (17th October). During the month of October, we are joining with the United Nations in celebrating and raising awareness of these two events and encouraging our team across the UK to get involved and support in any way they are able.
Primarily, we are asking our employees for grocery donations which can either be taken to food bank baskets or delivered directly to foodbank warehouses. We have also organised an office collection for our Cardiff head office.
Prices of some essential food items have risen by as much as 80% in recent months and, worryingly, nearly one in five people in the UK now use food banks. According to Ubamarket, around 6.7 million Brits will rely on food bank charities at some point during the current cost-of-living crisis.
Although food is important, it’s not the only essential that is needed to meet basic living requirements, and we are also asking our colleagues for donations of household items such as books, bedding and footwear. We have shared lists of nationwide charities whose aim is to eradicate poverty in the UK with our team and will be doing all we can to support them during October and beyond.
